Dear Everyone,
24th April 2018 is the centenary of the death of Arthur Lewis Thomas in The Somme and as a former Head of Thomas' House from 2001 - 2011 I wanted the school community to be aware of this approaching anniversary.
Thomas was a member of the Games staff at our school and then latterly served in the Northamptonshire Regiment in France
For your interest / use / forwarding I have attached a photograph (circa 1910) of Thomas, pictured on the right with the cricket XI, and a copy of the CWGC certificate. As archivist, Andy Mair investigated the names of the pupils in the photograph and discovered that many of them never came home either - a poignant reminder of the losses endured by families and our school alike. .
I know there are a number of staff who have personal connections and an interest in the Thomas' / TS House and I would be pleased if knowledge of this anniversary can be spread to former students and the OR's wherever possible.
Over the years, some of us have been able to visit the Pozieres Memorial (where there is an inscription for Thomas) during the CHS Year 10 History trip to The Somme. I plan to return there to lay a wreath on behalf of the school and Wallace Ferguson has kindly agreed to accompany me to take some photographs of the memorial.
